I feel Lightheaded 75% of the time. I am not dizzy, but the feeling is still very uncomfortable. It is sometimes accompanied by mental confusion
and slowness. I had a normal MRI and the brain wave test indicated a
"slight irritation" which the doctor said could possibly be mild
seizures. He suggested I try Tegretol, a medicine that I did not take because of the listed possible side effects. I am currently taking Klonopin to aid in sleeping and Zoloft for depression. I also take synthroid for radioacitive iodine induced Hypothryroidism.
What are my options? Notheing seems to help. Dear Jim, Lightheadedness is a very nonspecific symptom that can occur in a variety
disease processes, some of which are neurological while others are not. The symptoms that you are describing slowness, confusion can occur in hypothyroidism. You may want to have your doctor check your levels. These symptoms can also occur in some of the degenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic problems. I do not know how to interpret your EEG findings based on what you said, either there was an epileptic focus which may need to be treated or there was not. Confusion can be seen with seizures but that is usally following periods where there is a loss of conscoiusness. You do not report that happening. You may ask your doctor to check orthostatic blood pressures, a routine chemistry panel, complete blood count, and EKG. If you have not seen a neurologist, you may want to do so. A good neuro exam is important to help differentiate between the neurological causes and serve as a guide to further testing.
