Question Title: ImuranForum: Neurology Forum
| ||||
Is it possible to begin immuntherapy with Imuran rather than prednisone? My symptons at this time are very mild and I am willling to wait for improvement. Or is it more likely that my symptons will become intolerable befor the Imuran begins to work. My physician seems to make decisions for me without asking for my input.
Thanks for the question Carol. Treatment of MG is individualized and varied depending on the preferences of the physician. Not all patients need to have their MG treated with steriods or some form of immunosuppresion. Imuran is often added later as we try to wean patients off steroids. If your symptoms are mild then it could be possible to start with imuran but it will take at least 3 months to start to have an affect. If you were to get into trouble you could be treated with steroids, mestinon, plasma exchange or IVIg. If you wish a consultation at the CCF call 216 444 5559.
