Question Title: Echinacea

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Neurology - General

Have their been any studies done on whether Echinacea can bring on symptoms of MS or other neurological disorders? (amyloidosis, MG) I know they say you shouldn't take this herb if you have MS, but what if you've never had symptoms and then symptoms appear? Any thoughts...

As you know this medication has been touted as being useful in treating colds, flu, sore throat and sinus problems. The suggestion has been that since it is an immune system stimulant, it may be counterproductive for those with an autoimmune disorder. As far as I know it has not been studied in the diseases you list. This information is provided for general medical education purposes. Please consult your physician regarding diagnostic and treatment options.
