Question Title: Myasthenia Gravis andSt. John's Wort

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Myasthenia Gravis

I noticed that on 3/14/98 that a concern was raised by Ann about whether or not St. John's Wort could cause MG symptoms. The response was that there has been no evidence of such. This captured my attention because after taking St. John's Wort tid for 3 months I developed symptoms of MG. I ceased taking St. John's Wort but the symptoms have persisted. I am interested to learn if there are others out there who have experienced similar situations and if this may be worth researching or just a coincidence.

If you are having symptoms of MG (you don't specify what), I would get evaluated as soon as possible. Myasthenia is treatable, and you don't want to set yourself up for complications of this illness by not having it looked into.

Of course, it is possible that you don't have an actual myasthenic syndrome. In that case, it would be important to know what you have so that the true significance of yomr symptoms and any possible relationship to the medication can be more accurately evaluated.

I hope this helps. As you know, this information is for your general medical education only. Any specific comment regarding diagnosis, treatment, or prognosis must come from your doctor after appropriate evaluation. CCF MD mdf.
