Question Title: Amitriptylin and MG symptomsForum: Neurology Forum
| ||||
Can anyone tell me if Amitriptylin can cause Myasthenia Gravis symptoms? Thank you. = Unlikely. Amitriptyline has some central and peripheral nervous system anticholinergic side effects, but blockade of the neuromuscular junction would be unlikely. Possible, but unlikely. People who have demonstrated MG usually do fine with tricyclics (amitriptyline is in that category of medications). Bear in mind that myasthenic syndromes are strictly defined by problems in transmission of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. Some symptoms that arise in myasthenic syndromes may overlap with other causes and therefore represent different diseases. If you are concerned about side effects of amitryptiline (there are plenty), see your doctor or you are welcome to get a second opinion. I hope this helps. CCF MD mdf.
