Question Title: Ritalin and AlopeciaForum: Neurology Forum

My grandson was diagnosed with ADD about 4-5 yrs ago and was put on Ritalin. In the last few weeks, we have noticed a place on the back of his head (hairline) that is losing hair. His hairline has become very uneven. I believe this could be coming from the long term Ritalin. I read somewhere that it could cause alopecia. Dr. has taken him off Ritalin and put him on Luvox. Wonder if anyone knows if hair will come back in this area.
= Wish I could be more help. The PDR does list scalp hair loss as a rare finding but I have never seen this. Certainly the best chance to restore the hair loss is discintinuation of the medication. Other causes of hair loss, however, should also be investigated. I could contact the company who manufacture ritalin. They are often helpful in providing such information. Good luck
