Question Title: TS and MS link?

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Tourette

My children both have been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrom (as well as OCD, and the youngest with ADD as well). I am undxed. The genetic link is obvious in my Mother's side, as well as in other areas of the family. My Mother was dxed a short while ago with TM and has just been dxed with Multiple Sclerosis. We know there is a link between other disorders and such in TS families. What I am looking for now is any information suggesting, or pointing to, a possible link between TS and MS (or even TM). Including TSers with family members with MS.

Thank you,
Challis

The connection between TS, OCD, and ADD has long been recognized. There is a known genetic component, though no specific gene has been identified, and "penetrance" of the genetic abnormality is not complete. I am unaware of any connection between tic disorders (such as TS) and MS. At a physiologic level, they are completely different diseases.

Hope this helps. CCF MD mdf.
