This is a second question to "visual aura" posted July 01, 1998 posted by CCf Neurology MD:NT on July 20, 1998. Since the time the question was posted and now we did finally get in to a neurologist who decided a sleep deprived eeg would rule out other possibilities as he also believed my son was having some sort of migraine. The results of the eeg are as follows: Impesssion, this patients eeg is abnormal. It reveals brief bursts of generalized abortive spike and slow wave activity. These bursts occur spontaneously and in responce to photic stimulation. This finding is epilectiform in character and of the types seen in individuals who experience generalized seizures. The occipital rhythm is slightly slow for age. There are no focal or lateralizing features. I am having a difficult time having my questions answered by the new doctor. He said that any one could have this eeg result but we are starting depacote 125mg 1x for 3 weeks and then increasing to 125mg 2x however he is unsure if this will help his vision and forgetfulness wich has continued to become worse especially the color blockages sometimes there are so many that he just pulls his hair and screams make it stop. Also now sometimes he picks his lip or pulls on his ear lobe with his fingers and seems lost in thought if I call to him or touch him he seems to come right back. Could you please tell me what this eeg really means. Does this show epilepsy? Should we still come there or could we seek an epileptologist closer as in Dallas? Thank you for your time. You are providing a wonderful service!
