Hi, I have a 2 year old daughter. When she was 11 mos old, she woke from bed screaming, while i was holding her I noticed her torso and legs were intermittently twitching. She was warm, but could not have had a fever over 100. Every time she would twitch she would cry, so she was aware what was happening to her. After the twitching stopped, she was not unaware or lethargic, but she did throw up, we rushed her to the emergency room and she was of course extremely happy, and talkative by then. They said they did not feel it was a a seisure, because of her awareness, and she showed none of the after affects. Well anyway, the reason I am writing is, she has never been a good sleeper, she sleeps through the night, but she is a thrasher, moaner, cryer, talker, and today I fell asleepp in the bed with her and noticed that right before she woke, her body again intermittently began to twitch, after she woke she was fine, Is this seizures? dear crystal, it is difficult to say if these episodes were seizures or they could be night mares. Even children this age can have night mares. I suggest that you see a pediatric neurologist who will obtain a thorough history and do a neurologic exam on your daughter. Chances are he/she will order an EEG (brain wave test)to determine if these episodes are seizures or not. I would also advice you to video tape these events prior to your appointment as this will greatly help the neurologist. These is nothing better than the actual visualization of the event to hrlp in the diagnosis.
