Question Title: Long Term Bell's Palsy

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Bell's Palsy

Does anyone have any information regarding treatment of long term bell's palsy??
My 17 year old daughter has had it for a year and half and we see NO
improvement. We have tried accupuncture, physical therapy, and electromic
stimulation. ANY SUGGESTIONS????

Bells palsy results in damage to the peripheral componenet of the 7th cranial nerve. You can determine the degree of nerve involvement electrically by doing an EMG (electromyography ) test. This should be completed in a lab well trained in these tech. The EMG can give information as to the extent of nerve injury and if any reinnervation has started. Sometimes these lesion are complete and recovery is limited and plastic surgery may need to be done. If you wish a referral to CCF call 216 444 5559.
