Question Title: further on unusual fracture of 3rd rib

Thanks for the helpful information. One more question. I know that similar surgeries have been performed for scoliosis, etc. Can you give me any info on neurological risk factors of having approximately 2 inches of 3rd rib removed? One of the doctors said that the risk was getting a "neuroma", I believe he called it, where the nerve grows back wrong. Isn't this a risk in any rib removal, and is it common? Thanks for the update but I'm not sure how much I can add since as previously mentioned this is not a problem that we treat. I'm afraid I can't give you surgical risk numbers for procedures that we do not do. You will need to discuss those specifically with your surgeon. I have seen many patients who have had ribs resected for various chest problems and have not seen neurologic problems but then can exist. Most surgical rib procedures are done by cardiothoracic surgeons I believe at our institution. Good luck with is difficult problem
