hi, my husband 36 yo, was just dx'ed with MS. his doctor wants to perform the following tests. LP, SEP, VEP. We can not find any information on what these tests are, how they are performed, what the doctor is looking for with each test etc etc...can you please inform us on any and all information involved with these tests? your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your question. LP stands for Lumbar Puncture, and consists
of obtaining a small sample of cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) for analyis of
celluar content, protein, and other metabolite concentrations. There is
a specific series of tests for MS called Tourtellote's Panel/Formula.

SEP stands for Somatosensory Evoked Potentials and is a quantitative/numerical
way of evaluating somatosensory deficits (e.g. numbness, tingling, etc.)

VEP stands for Visual Evoked Potentials. A number of visual patterns is
displayed for each eye and it is a quantification of deficits in the
visual pathway.
