Approx. 1 1/2 years ago, I had an AVM embolized using platinum coils. My AVM goes from right carotid artery to the dura of the brain.Prior to this my symptom was a bruit in the right ear. Since then, I sometimes experience a bruit in my right and left ear. Two cat scans were unreadible due to the platinum used in the embolization. Afetr another angiogram, they now want to do more of an embolization, but I am severely anemic. What are the chances that an additional embolization will quote " CURE THIS " Also, today, I woke up with impaired hearing in my left ear and constant ringing. Do you think this could be AVM related? I am, really frustrated with the treatment and them wanting to angiogram every six months. I would like to find a Dr. that will tell me the best thing to do, instead of dragging this on and on.Also, I am with my third Neuro-Surgeon in that practice, the others have left for better positions and my current physician is fresh out of Med School. I am told though , that he is well voiced with Basal Skull surgery. Thank you for any help or insight you could furnish. I live in the Pittsburgh area. Sheryl = Your situation is sufficiently complex that you need a vascular neurosurgical specialist to review your story, examine you, and go over the films you bring. If you have suffered a sudden loss of function (hearing in your case), call your doctor right away! You might even have to go to the ER. I hope this advice is stale by now and you have already done something about it. Sorting out the specialist's consultation about future management of the AVM can wait, but rapidly developing symptoms need attention right now. It is fortunate that Pittsburgh is only three hours from Cleveland - I think you should come here to CCF (after the acute problem is taken care of). Call 800 223-2273 and ask for neurology appointments at 4-5559. Actually, they'll probably have to transfer you to neurosurgery but it's a toll free call anyway. I believe the vascular specialist is Dr Chyatte, but you should ask the appointment person what your options are. I hope this helps. CCF MD mdf.
