Question Title: thoracic vertebrae painful and tenderForum: Neurology Forum

Doctors- although i have been recently been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, i have developed different symptoms over the thast three days. Very painful *lump* on left side of back near shoulder blade point and moving horizontally to spine where the vertebrae are extremely tender and painful. about two in that area it feels like. i cannot sleep with the pain and SOMA and ambien are not helping. i cannot get in touch with neurologist at this time. have also tried heat and massage by husband. have had alot of back and neck pain in the past, but not with spine so terribly tender. what can cause this?
Thanks for your question. Your symptoms are suggestive of a muscle spasm in the scapular "trigger point", although the intensity appears unusually strong. These symptoms are frequently brought on by a combination of inadequate posture and sub-acute/chronic pain in the upper back region. Local moist heat and mild analgesics are usually effective for these symptoms. Additionally certain stretch exercises and posture correction would help in the prevention once the acute symptoms are resolved.
