Subject: Re: Leg pain In 1996, I had varicous veins removed from both legs due to partical blockage. Within the past two months my legs are aching and burning again expecially the back of my right leg behind the knee and the bottom of my feet. This aching is persistent and continually both day and night. I'm not sure if I should go back to the surgeon or should I see someone else in case this my be a different problem.
Thanks for your question. Your symptoms could be related to your prior surgical scars, particularly if they are superimposed on the incisions. Another scenario to consider is a possible peripheral neuropathy, that is damage to a peripheral nerve. A number of systemic diseases can cause such neural lesions such as Diabetes Mellitus, nutritional deficiencies. A third possibility is a vascular pain, but of arterial origin. For instance, is your pain triggered by physical activity, such as walking, and then relieved by a period of rest? The fourth scenarion to consider is a lesion in your lower back (where the nerve roots exit the verterbral column) - do you have any significant back pain problems, or a history of back injury? A physical/neurological exam by a physician would greatly help in clarifying I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck.
