Question Title: Symptoms of a Brain Tumor?Forum: Neurology Forum
| ||||
I just received a letter from one of my 15 year old son's friends telling me that he has been telling her about these severe headaches he gets at around 4:00 everyday. How when he stands up quickly from sitting or lying that he gets dizzy, his vision gets fuzzy, and he is thrown off balance. That he has acutally blacked out because of this! She said that she just found out a few days ago, but he says it has been going on for 6 months. He isn't the kind of boy who would come and tell me and before I confronted him I wanted to know what this could suggest- since he will ask. Please help me!
Thanks for your question. Given the regular character of his symptoms (always at early morning), and also the associated neurological symptoms (imbalance, disturbance in vision, possibly vertigo), it is highly recommended that your son be seen by a physician (either your family physician or a general neurologist). It is important for characterize better his headaches (location, "type of pain", duration of each episode, possible triggers, improving/worsening factors, current medications, smoking (?), drugs (?), sources of "tension" in his life). The list of possibilities without some elements of history to narrow the diagnosis is quite long. A thorough physical exam (including an eye exam) is also essential to complete the evaluation. From what it has been described in your message, there are NO elements that requires an emergent evaluation of his situation, but you should schedule a medical appointment sooner than later. I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck. This information is provided for general medical education purposes only.
