lightheadedness

by imelda, Jan 01, 2000 12:00AM

I was dignosed with Parkinson's last year.

I am with the research group and I do noy know what i am taking.

I am experiencing lightheadedness for the whole day both sitting and standing up. When i am standing,i feel like i am swaying although I do not fall.  I have stiffness at the back around the base of the neck.

I am 51 years old and my menses is still regular. the doctors have taken blood test and everything is ok. They have taken my Ecg and it was ok.

Also, I am coughing a lot since last February after I had the flu. I also have a lot of gas. It seems to me that my cough is worst after eating and at night.

i would appreciate your response.

thank you

Dear Imelda:

Sorry to hear about your Parkinson's disease.  It is difficult to tell you why your experiencing the symptoms you describe.  They may be side effects of the medication you are taking, but since you are in a special study, I have no idea if this is what is happening.  I would consult with your study physicians.  Lightheadedness might be from the medication or from your Parkinson's.  What is your blood pressure when you are setting and then stand up?  I would have your physician do this and if this is what is occuring (orthostatic hypotension) then there are things that your physician can do.  The cough is difficult to say, do you feel that your throat is dry?  If so, they may be a medication effect, but since you do not know your medication I can't tell you much.  Again, as the study doctor about this.

Sorry I couldn' help much.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
