meningioma

by shona 35, Feb 23, 2000 12:00AM
I have recently been diagnosed with a crebellar pontine meningioma.  Right now it is 1.5 cm.  I am wondering what the best treatment for this particular meningioma is and if you know the best facility or neurosurgeon to go to.  Any info will be appreciated. Thank you.

Dear Shona 35:

Most of the time, a meningoma is very slow growing and we will only follow it year with a MRI?  Is there some reason that your meningoma is growing fast?  There are malignant growing meningoma that have to be surgically removed, but that is the rare bird.  Unless, there is something atypical about your meningoma, we usually just watch.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the question. I suume the diagnosis of meningioma has been made based on what it looks like on an MRI scan. Without a tissue diagnosis you do not know for sure. CPA menigniomas can cause hearing impairment and if not previously done you should have a hearing test. These tumors are generally slow growing. Treatment includes surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. At CCF we offer all available treatments for this condition and would be pleased to see you in consultaion to review your films and make treatment plans for you. You can call 216 444 5559 and ask for an appointment with one of the neuro-oncologists. Good luck
