by john m, Mar 19, 2001 12:00AM
I am 38 yr old male, with chronic fatigue like symptoms for 12 yrs, lots of testing done with no dx.had e.b.v.at 17yrs old.

since jan 10/01 started having flu symtoms, with tops of thighs

aching,calfs aching,arms aching.(no temp,fever,diarrea)just very

fluish.sick feeling went away in 9 days, but not the aches.had

some twitching with these aches(calfs,thighs,back,arms).no

improvement,so seen neuroligest 2/20 exam seemed fine,did emg/

nerve con.legs ok/left arm ok/ r.arm 40%.this arm for years has

ached because i lift alot.all blood tests good including ana,rf.

now in march, still have calf pain, with lots of twitching, spasms, scared

of als.dont notice any weakness, but achy pain, joint cracking.

I had thallium stress test/heart cath done in sept./00 because

of years of chest pain, test results normal.about 5 days after my

heart cath. I had these exact calf, arm, thigh aches,no twitching.

these went completly away until jan 10/01.my nero dr.thinks a

virus.Mri of head good,he will be doing complete spine mri, along

with a test to see electrical speed from feet to head?iam an

anxious person, and am VERY scared.Question is have you heard of

post viral causing twitching, spasms, aches, pains,or just als?

THANK YOU.

Dear John:

Sorry to hear about your twitching.  ALS is likely not at work in your twitching.  You are describing too much sensory changes and also your EMG did not show the usual fibrillations.  Yes, post viral symptoms can include muscle fasciculations.  They can come and go and are made worse by anxiety and  fatigue.

Sincerely,

Have you been tested for Lyme Disease? I have late stage CNS Lyme Disease and have a lot of the same symptoms as you, plus more. Good Luck
