Burning Skin - Burning Eyes - Genital Skin Irritation - Anxiety

Please help me ! --

My problem started 3 months ago; I was in excellent health.  I had unprotected sex for the first time with my now ex-girlfriend.

I knew I shouldn't have before hand and I made a mistake. She is in poor health - and has had numerous sexual partners in the past...she had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 3 years ago.  She has been to the STD clinic after the incident, and HIV tested and Gonorreah and Clamydia - and had a Herpes visual check - all negative.

I was very distraught, stressed, and disappointed in myself for making such a poor choice in sexual partners-let alone having unprotected sex.  3 days later I experienced tingling sensations in my scrotum along with a red rash, abnormal scrotal movement and it felt a little sticky, and moist all the time.  The area didn't look right - however, there were no lesions.  I had a slight discharge, when forced from the base of the penis to the head, but it was cultured for Gonoreah and Clymdia- which was negative...(Could I be experiencing a reaction to non-GC bacteria, yeast or fungus?)  I do have occasional abdominal pain, but not extreme.

The Dermatologist looked me over - said I have eczema and possible allergic reaction on my scrotum.  I tried a prescription steroidal cream - didn't help.

I went to the Dr's 7 times over the next 3 months.

The first time the Dr. gave me Acloyvir in the case I was experiencing a primary episode of Herpes- took it for a week and no improvement.  I was blood type tested for HSVI & II 7 weeks later, HIV tested, Gonorreah and Clymdia cultures - all negative.

After 2 weeks of 3 hours of sleep or less, I went and got checked again. My vision was impaired, were photo-sensitive, and I had slight discharge and burning of the eyelids..I still had the rash, tingling and itchiness, my scrotum was never in a relaxed state.  Also, my muscles all over my body were twitching out of control. He recommended Natural Tears.  He also gave me Atavin which helped a little for the sleep and muscles.

After 2 months of waking up in the middle of the night, or not sleeping more than 3 hours...I went to the Dr again..this time he gave me a long-term anxiety medication.  I bought some over the counter sleeping pills which I took for 2 1/2 weeks to substitute the Atavan.  I stopped taking the sleeping pills 10 days ago, and I still seem to be sleeping the same as with the sleeping pills.

I went to the Dr yesterday-3 months later, having frequent feelings of gitteriness over the past 8 weeks, sometimes running a mild fever.  My skin on the upper body burns at times, including my face, lips, and eyelids.  My eyes are still having problems with slight sleep accumulation & discharge in the morning and look irritated.  My lips chap constantly and I see little white bumps on both upper and lower lips.  The lips also feel sticky and then they chap over - with a white layer of dry skin on them.  I also have the muscle twitch going on - and the feeling the blood is being forced through my veins.

The rash seems to go away only with J&J Medicated Baby powder, as I have tried numerous creams.  I have been using Detergents Free Laundry Soaps - all herpal Shampoos, toothpastes, soaps and shaving cream, and I have switched to all Silk boxers to eliminate possible irritants.  Nothing goes away - Food allergy?  I started fasting- taking only the Buspar - anti-anxiety medication and drinking water.  I am a day into that and I don't feel different.  I use the J&J powder habitually, but if I stop the pain and rash return- though not as bad as the 1st episode.

All this being said - I feel my health has just plummetted.  Being a psychology major, I understand what the mind can do mentally and physiologically-but this is absurd.  I had seen 7 Doctor's (including 1 Dermatolist).  What can I do besides jump off a bridge?

I have done more reading on this stuff and there are just so many triggers and causes, and reasons for all these symptoms, I understand how it's difficult to diagnose anything.  I have written this to you as a last ditch effort to list all my problems, in sequence for a better perspective and hopefully something that makes more sense.  I understand you can't diagnose me unless I am seen, but can you offer some insight as to what may be going on? and what kind of testing (bacterial, patch, blood) I might consider having done to eliminate these health issues.  Please be specific ...

I feel that unless the Fasting elimates the problems (possible food allergy) I have exhausted what I can to to feel better.  I will continue to take it day-by day and gauging myself on improvement rather than problems.

The Dr's I have been to- I feel are discouraged with me, so if I need to go again, I will go to a new Doctor.  I would like to arm myself with some suggestions to him, as far as what the next steps are.

My heart tells me something is wrong-and it feels like my body is trying to fight off something...which may have lead to why the eczema started and the burning sensations.  If viral, it should have been gone by now.  I think it's something bacterial...and somehow affecting the skin...PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP!

Dear Macdost:

I am not sure I can help you.  The problem seems to be in the realm of an infectious disease person.  Since your ex-girlfriend tested negative for the common STD's it is doubtful that you have contracted some STD that is causing your problems.  But, then again, are you sure she was tested?  At least your testing has come back negative.  This would say that you do not have one of these STD.  If you had another type of bacterial infection you would be much sicker.  If it was viral, you might be experiencing symptoms but they would not usually last as long as you have had your symptoms.  HIV usually takes alaittle longer to manifest itself after unprotected sex.  A repeated test might be useful in a few more months.  It doesn't sound like it is neurological in etiology.  I do hope you find the cause and I am sorry that I am not much help.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD

Infectious Disease? Your much too gentle....

What you did, unprotected sex happens, so acccept your misjudgement and FORGIVE yourself!!! This is not something your going to hear in a psych class. Yes the mind is powerful, obviously you haven't given it it's rightful due,and no this is not absurd it's just a show of the power of the mind and what can be created. I think with the training you may have this is obvious to you now, so seek the help of a professional and clear up this part of your past, eat right and your body will do what it already knows how to do.....be healthy!

If you suspect a food allergy, you may have a condition called mastocytosis, in which you have too many allergy cells and they release all this inflammatory junk in your bloodtream causing all sorts of problems.  See an allergist/immunologist for blood tryptase testing as well as urine histamine.  There are some other possible casues like pheochromocytoma and carconoid syndrome that can mimic and be aggravated by allergy.

Hi,

I was reading along here and happened upon your entry.  I'm not a doctor, but it sounds a lot like Reiter's Syndrome.  It is mostly caused by Clamydia and is more common in men.  The symptoms are similar to what you described, especially the eye discharge, which is one of the main symptoms (besides joint pain later on). The eyes can be Conjunctivitis or Uvietis (Uvietis will cause the eyes to be photo-sensitive).  It can also cause rashes, mouth sores, gential sores, arthritis, urinary tract symptoms.  It is an infectious form of arthritis (like Lyme Disease).  It can be treated with antbiotic early on, so I would see a doctor to get a test for Clamydia one more time.
