Cerebral Arrhythmia

by LCU, Sep 27, 2001 12:00AM
About 5 years ago and after 3 different medical opinions, my husband was diagnosed from arrhythmia of brain origin, he took Tegretol for about 7 months (treatment was for 3 to 5 years), but he did not tolerate the Tegretol.  He has been without medical supervision since then, and of course he still presents symptoms (head pressure and pain, behavioral disorders, etc.) I would like to know if there is a new treatment or medicine that do not cause the effects of Tegretol and if you can reccommend a specialist or a place so he can be treated. I´d appreciate very much your help.

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say ?arrhythmia of the brain. If you're talking about epilepsy/seizures/EEG changes, that all depends on exactly what they found. The word arrhythmia usually refers to disorders of the heartbeat and not the brain's activity. The only thing I can say is that a new version of Tegretol has been on the market for a couple years now. If he was being treated with Tegretol (for whatever reason???) maybe his docs can change him to Trileptal which is in the same family of drugs and has a similar mechanism of action without the dangerous side effects. Also, it doesn't need monitoring of levels or blood counts. That's all I can recommend as I really don't know what specific disease entity you're referring to. Good luck.
