i am a 44 yr old w/fm i have been diagnosed with complex partial seizures/epilepsy caused by the lesion in the left temporal lobe . i have tried 4 meds none of them are working .they said it is caused by the venous angioma but from my research normally venous angioma does not cause problem unless it is accompanied by cavernous angioma or other tumor like lesions.they have told me they can correct this by doing surgery on the left temporal lobe. at this point i am looking for a hospital in louisville or near by in ohio that does this surgery on a regular bases and known for its sucess in this field . there is a lot to the eeg and the mri i will try to give you the short version . mri states there is a sizeable venous angioma extending from the left trigone through the posterior left temporal lobe . it also states that there is mild hyperintensity associated with this lesion.the eeg states focal sharp activity seen arising from the left temporal region suggesting focal epileptiform abnormality .if you need the full version of both test please let me know.i am sorry this is so long and i am greatful for you time if there is anything you could explain that would help me to understand this i am truly greatful .god bless .wishing you well .

Actually, venous angiomas can cause seizures, headaches, and focal neurological deficits (though uncommon) depending on their location and size. As I have not seen your films personally or reviewed your EEG, I cannot make an accurate statement. WHat I can say is that it's not surprising that your epilepsy is refractory to medications, because you have a known anatomical problem (the angioma) that is constantly irritating the brain tissue around it, thus producing seizures.
If you are seriously considering surgical options, here at the clinic we have one of the best epilepsy surgical centers in the country. Dr. William Bingaman is our epilepsy neurosurgeon and you can make an appointment with him. Make sure to bring your films. You may also consider seeing one of our epileptologists first - we are fortunate to have many who would be happy to see you: Drs. thank you so much for your reply .i know your time is valuable and i am greatful.yes i am strongly considering your clinic for the surgery if there is some information about the surgery you could e mail me it would help in my decision. as much as i would love to have my surgery done on a local level here in louisville , i have done some research and found that cleveland clinic is more experienced in the field of epilepsy surgery and neuro surgery .so again if you could send me some info about your clinic , and temporal lobe surgery i would be greatful .this has taken my life and put me in limbo my personal live is suffering greatly because of this. not to mention my health which goes with out saying. so really i have no choice in this it is simply a matter of finding the right surgeons and hospital to do it. i was considering having a family member to accompany me during the stay, can your clinic provide acomadations for that?, or should i be looking for arangements in that area .i know that sometimes there is temporary memory and speach problems following this type of surgery and i wanted someone to be there that was familar to me in hopes that it would help me to recover more quickly .i would also like to have some idea how long my stay at your clinic would be . i am trying to think of things in advance so it wont be so hard on me or my family , but at the same time wanting to make sure not to rush anything to make sure i have the best chance of being seizure free with out any brain dammage .i have been through a lot health wise and,i simply want my life back. once again i appreciate your time and the help you are providing patients that are in such need . may god bless .wishing you well.

He's our top epilepsy neurosurgeon who is very experienced with temporal lobe surgery. Tell them about your problem and that you may be interested in having surgery.
