no tender point sensitivity?

Hi. About 3 years ago I was diagnosed woth fibromyalgia. Last August I went to Dr. with what I thought was a flare-up(not ever experienced to that intensity) and he told me I did not have it due to no tender point pain. Since Dec./02 I have been progressing with sevre muscle cramps and spasims all over body(back, arms, legs, abdomen area, hands and feet) muscle twitchs in arms, abdomen, around eyes, slurred speach, stagerring, weakness in legs when coming up stairs, pains in my head, at times difficulty swalling fluids, foggy thinking, memory impairment and fatigue. In the last 2 months the weakness has become profound in arms and legs and the cramping less, the symptons are continuing and past history has been remitting and flare-ups. I have had an initial exam with a neuroligist and am being sent for a E.M.G. as well as blood tests being done. My question is, is it possible to have fibromyalgia without the tender point sensitivity?

Fibromyalgia and what consititutes the diagnosis are somewhat controversial among physicians. Technically, for those physicians who do make diagnoses of fibromyalgia, there should be some degree of point tenderness in certain regions of the body. However, given your symptoms, there is a concern for something neurological going on with your muscles. Blood tests for muscle proteins such as CK and aldolase as well as thryoid and routine electrolyte testing should be considered. THe EMG should be very helpful in ruling in/out a neurological cause. Finally, depending on what is found, a muscle biopsy may be considered. Best of luck.

I have been having strange symptoms for over a year now. It started w/ a cramp in my left calf. Then I started having a burning sensation on my skin (mainly my arms but, sometimes in other areas). I also feel BRUISED when touched on my arms and thighs. Just recently have I started having other aches and pains - I mean I've had pains before now but, lately they've been worse. My knees and elbows when I first wake up hurt. I am in the process right now of testing to find out what's wrong. I have an eye disease that is linked to MS and my eye dr. wanted me to get teste for it so we are going to do an MRI to rule that out. Rhemo and Neuro both say they don't think my symptoms are MS symptoms. I am thinking it's Fibromyalgia. Do my symptoms sound anything like yours? Burning sensation on skin... arms and legs feel bruised... fingers hurt when I grab certain things like the knob to turn on water.... or the steering wheel! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!

i am a patient with chronic fibromyalgia symdrome i have had this disease or illness for many years my hepatologist/gastro.doctor told me it was caused by being infected with hepatitis c. which i contracted through one of my surgeries in 1991. i have had both disease sense 1991 when they were just finding out about hep see . first and formost i would sugest that you both have a complete blood work for hep c and arthritis considering arthritis is also very much realated to fibro.m not ito mention ibs and many other medical conditions .i have located several web pages for you guys to look at which would give you a better insight on fibro m.some illness that come along with this disease can be ibs ,gastro probs ,acid reflux, headaches ,body aches , skin being tender to the touch ,headaches,mucels aches ,fitigue,swelling of legs and hands ,bloating of stomach ,skin stinging ,hot flashes ,i could keep going on and on but you get the idea of some of the symptoms ,what the doctors may have failed to tell you is that hep c can cause fibro m. , and the two diseases have many of the symptoms if not all of !!!! so it is very important to get tested for hep c sense you have been diagnosed with fibro.make sure you see a specialest in the field and not just your family doctor sense they normaly do not have a great deal of knowledge of fibro m. , or hep c a gastro/hepatoligist is the specialest you need .you can contract hep c through neddle priks ,getting blood through surgery ,unclean medical instruments ,intravinous drug use ,unclean dental instruments,through contact of body fluids of infected persons ,1% rate through unprotected sex ,etc.i have had both disease sense 1991 ,they just identfied the hepatitis c virus a couple of years prior to my infection.the hep c is the reason for my fibro this is one of the reasons when someone tells me they have fibro i mention a hep c blood workup,it may or may not be , but there is no harm in making sure sense hep c is a serious virus that can cause many health problems.keep in mind hep c. out rates in no.s the aids virus and some people don't now they have been subjected to the virus because it can be contracted through something as simple as a dental cleaning here is the web sights that you may find of use then after that you can type into your search bar hepatitis c.and fibromyalgia and it will enplain the connections or give you some sight that you can read upon the two related diseases .www.fibromyalgia-symtoms.org-----www.fibromyalgiasupport.com-----------healthsquare.com i hope this has helped in some small way ,god bless wishing you well ,p.s if you need more info please let me know and i will try to help!!!!

Anyone ever look up "Myofascial pain syndrome". similar to Fibro. but have trigger points and muscle problems, tingling,numbness,head,neck,ear problems etc. That is what I have.

if you do some research on fibromyalgia/myofascial symdrome you will find they are actualy one in the same all the symptoms you explained in your post are in fact symptoms of fibromyalgia here is a sight you can go to for more info www.rwjhamilton.org search for of the 2 names and it should let you know they are considered one in the same ,and will give you information and symptoms regarding the disease / symdrome that you have god bless,wishing you well .

Sorry, but fibromalgia and myofascial are different in the respect that fibro has tender points and myofascial has trigger points and fascia. You can have fibro and myofascial at the same time but the symptoms are still different in many aspects. I have done extensive research on both and fibro is just a bucket disease that drs. diagnose when they can't figure out what is really going on. Everyone has fibro symptoms one time or another.

I was diagnosed with Myofascial pain syndrome, so I have done extensive researh, thank you very much. Fibro has tender points and myofascial has tigger points and fascia problems with no tender points.You can have both syndromes at the same time though.

I was like that for about 6 years before the tender points developed. Most of my symtoms have subsided massively since 05/21/03, starting 15 minutes after placing a methylcobalmine 1000mcg tablet under my tongue. 50 mcg daily of cyanocobalamin daily for years and my docs never looked furthur.

I knew in 15 minutes that my life had changed. My 3 kids have a day and night effect with methylB12 and are hence saved a lifetime of progressive misery. 80% of the folks around here, you know, BFs, GFs, relatives, etc also have a significant effect within 24 hours. I am currently taking 10-15mg/day of methylb12. I have been reborn and once again can have a life.
