If a peson was involved in auto accident and had an mri brain without ccontrast 2 months after accident to rule out stroke as result of accident and on mri brain report says the following " There is no evidence for accute ischemic event.There is no mmass or mass effect.Normal study." Does above findings mean there is no evidence of stroke in the last 2 months or there is no evidnce of stroke since birth? If there is no evidence of stroke at all,why didn't radiologist just write there is no evidence for acute and chronic ischemic events,but instead he used the word acute and not chronic?Thanks

Depending on how an MRI scan is completed it can show both acute and chronic strokes. Radiologists comment on the fact that there is no acute stroke either to indicate that they did special imaging to look for an acute stroke, or because this is a common reason to obtain a MRI of the brain. Chronic strokes can be seen with standard MRI techniques, and therefore the comment normal MRI excludes the presence of chronic strokes.
