Seizures

by CGTMHI, Dec 12, 2003 12:00AM
I live in Pakistan. I want to discuss problem of my daughter, which is as follows:

My daughter born on 24th of December 2000. At birthing time she inhaled dirty water inside her lungs and at birth she did not cried immediately. The doctor cleaned her lungs and then she cried after some.

After birth she was serious and there was no hope for her life. However, doctors tried, gave her antibiotics, red cells and white cells  and with the help of God she recovered after 13 days.

After that we had to visit doctor on every week. After 6 months she could not hold her neck. In reply the doctor said that some child hold their neck after 9 months, so we waited for 9 months. After nine months when she could not hold her neck we again visited the doctor and he recommended for C. T. scan and EEG.

The reports showed epileptic seizure disorder and the doctor started treatment. But no improvement was shown by medicines. Then the doctor said that she will improve with the span of time. But till now she is not able to sit, stand, speak and hold the things.

I request you to help me on humanity grounds in treatment of my daughter as i am not able to bear medical expenses for treatment of my daughter in USA or UK.

Thank you for your kindness.

Unless your daughter is having very frequent seizures, then I doubt that the seizures are causing her failure to develop. Did the CT scan of the brain show any abnormalities? I do not have all the information, but perhaps there was damage to the brain around the time of birth. If this the case, then there may be no medication to specifically treat this condition. The best treatment then is therapy and continued support from the family, which I am sure you are giving. You may also wish to speak with your doctors to ask if they have evaluated your daughter for muscle disorders, or disorders of energy production(mitochondrial disorders). I wish I could help more. Good luck.
