I am 45.My gp said not to worry about them.easily said.Should I be concerned? thanks

Muscle fasciculations can be seen in disease states, the most notable being ALS. However, they can also be apart of benign fasciculation syndrome, excessive muscle use, and some electrolyte abnormalities. They may be secondary to your running routine. However, if you are concerned about other possibilities the you should have a consultation with a neurologist. Good luck.

I have been having muscle twitchings all over my body, including the head and throat, that started with twitchings on my left forearm (just below the elbow joint) about three weeks ago. I started feeling dizzy and tired with slight tingling in the extremities, stiffness in hands and neck, about a few months back and my doctor sent me to a specialist after all the blood tests came back normal. In the meantime, I had developed several symtoms viz. intermittent internal tremor of the body, persistent dizziness, head tremors (maybe twithing of the brain muscle), joint pain, etc. The specialist in turn referred me to a Neuro who did a nerve conduction test on my right leg and arm and diagosed me as having "Panic Attacks." Although I did not feel right about his diagnosis, I was happy that it was something so simple. However, about a week after the diagnosis, my symptoms became worse, especially the internal tremors, dizziness and the head tremor. I having waking up feeling very stiff every morning for a while too. The most worrisome symptoms are the muscle facsciculations and it is even worse now that since this afternoon, I feel that my throat is swollen and it feels uncomfortable to swallow. When I apply pressure on the area, it is little sensitive. Does anyone think this is symptomatic of ALS???I am terrified!

ALS is associated with weakness not tingling in the extremeties.  I have had the same symptoms as you.  If you are interested in what I have done to treat my symptoms, you can mail me at ***@****.  There is help for this.  God Bless  kw

I am hoping someone can give me an idea on what may be going on with me.  There never seems to be an opening to post a question to a docter.  My problem started about a month ago where my muslces in my one thight started to "pop", it was like a feeling of bubbles.  That stopped after a day or so, and now I occassionaly get that feeling in my calfs, and my arms, once in awhile, also when I lay down, i get the feeling in a small area on my back, and it is always the same area. From time to time my forehead and eyelids twitch.  I feel perfectly healthy, and feel no weaknesses or feel tired.  I am just trying to understand what this could be and why it just started to happen out of the blue.  I am a 37 year old male.  I also will get this pins and needle feeling off and on all over my body from time to time.  Each incident is limited to a small area, like on my arms, the bottom of my foot, my back.  It is not really painful, and it is actually light feeling of pins and needles.  What does this sound like?

Hello Finfan,

A lot of things are comming out of the bleu and i think

nobody can tell you exactly what is wrong, but i know that

a lot of things can happen with stress, especially the  fasciculations

in the eyelids, calfs, thumb, and also the pins and needle feelings in hands

and feet.

I have fasicuculations over 15 months now (  there are less now) and

always in the same area ,when i lay down it’s “was” mostly in my

back, i have (had) pins, needle, bubbles, ants, burning spots ect.

I tell you ones again ,this things can happen with stress, this is

told by my neuro,it also could be a infection,i have the dx to

have a postviral infection.I am not weak or tired. But nobody

is the same and visit a docter.ps, If you bend your neck at

you get more prikling feelings it could be something with

an infected nerve.

Good luck

Alphie,

Thanks for your reply.  I am under a lot of stress, and when I feel something, I really fixate on it, and that probably does not help.  I was worried that I may have ALS, but aside from the muscles twitching or popping, I have nothing else. The light feelings of pins and needles stayed for about a day, and really has not come back.  My speech is fine, my strength is good, I have no problems eating..etc.  The funny thing is that when I am busy or doing something, and my mind is off of it, I feel nothing, but once I am done being occupied, I sit and wait to feel something.  When I do, the fixation starts again.  I have never been this way before, but my cousin dies of ALS at 36.  I know that should not play a part on my health, but I keep on thinking it is something.  He was in the Navy, on a Nuclear sub, and he was the 2nd person to develop ALS in his squad.

It is just that I have never had these feelings before, and I have been under stress before, without having these issues...maybe it is age, or maybe I am just going crazy.......

Finfan,

It’s not very easy to explane this in the English language

because i am Dutch,but i try.

I do not know if you are under stress because of this or

you had stress before everything started.

Two years ago i had al lot of stress (two months),not

eating well, not sleeping well, high blood pr. ect.ect. you

know it. And just out of the bleu as you say,i got  pins,

and needle feelings in my feet and a electric shock

through my spine (Lhermitte). Now i was a ms suspected

person (again stress) To make a long story short,i got

3x mri,vep,ms clinic,lumbar p.and a lot more.

A specialist (neuro) told me that i had no ms but a virus

infection because my immuunsystem was weak, for 90%

sure because of that two months.

He told me what stress can do,”it can even kill you”

Because of this situation my wife got also stress ,and do

you know what she felt! :tingling and/or numb feet and

muscle fas.

I have a reason to have muscle fas.this because my nerve

is damaged (and recovery takes a long time) and you can

understand i am not “very” relaxed in this situation, but

i am sure that a lot of the muscle fas. that i have are from

stress” (you have more than one kind of stress) and mostly

something happends when you are in a ‘relaxed’ position.

Think all day long “i want to have muscle fas.” You will

get them!!

The neuro asked me,if i had twitches before and i told him that

sometimes my eyelids and my calfs had a little twitch,he looked

at me and told me “that’s not important for me i have that too.”

Yes..when i feel something ,just like you,i fixate on it.No.. this

doesn’t help! You can feel everything just think about it or

concentrate ..everybody dus feel something.

I am not a doc.but ‘i think’ you are making yourself crazy,ones

again i am not a doc.but visit one! I have diazepam and that helps

a lot.talk with someone,so your mind can relax.

It’s good that there are websites like this, but there is one thing

my neuro told me and i think he is right.”don’t try to find

yourself on the internet don’t make a self dx,you can’t find

your name there, everyone is different,we are not robots”

And the neuro’s here can only say.maybe, could be..ect.

this dusn’t help much.

Finfan..do you think i am crazy!.Alphie (42)

Alphie,

No, I do not think you are crazy, but I really appreciate the comments greatly. Thanks a lot!

I couldn't agree more.  The more I focus on the numbness and tingling or electric vibrating feeling or twitches, the more I feel them.  In fact, there are times when I am busy that I really don't even notice it.  It's worse when I lay down to sleep but I read my Bible, and pray to God for relief and I give him my concern.  That helps me sleep
