EMG results

by jgaer, Nov 22, 2004 12:00AM
I had a neurological exam and emg done a few weeks ago for frequent twitching.  The exam was normal and the emg findings was normal.

He did 5 areas in my hand and arm, 5 areas in my foot and leg and 6-7 areas in my upper back and neck.

Question:

Is this thorough enough to rule out ALS or at least make it very unlikely?

With this amount of testing, and it all being normal, a dioagnosis of ALS cannot be made. As long as all symptomatic areas were examined it should be sufficient at this time. However, ALS is a diagnosis established based on a clinical history, examination, and testing. Without reviewing your case I cannot make an accurate clinical diagnosis. If you have concerns a second opinion is always reasonable. Good luck.

First of all if you or your Dr are concerned you may have, your Dr will rule out every other possible illness first.

A emg does determine whether you have a problem with nerves, if abnormal and you have classic signs of als, a als dxed will be given.

You should be very thankful your emg was clean.

good luck.
