Optic Neuritis

Is it possible to have had optic neuritis but have normal VEPs?

I recently experienced a bilateral episode of decreased vision, central scotoma, flashes bilaterally, decreased color saturation, and overall dimming of vision. (Like looking through a screen door) It lasted about two weeks.

My visual field had overall decreased sensitivity but has now returned to normal.

It is possible to have a clinical diagnosis of optic neuritis and have a normal visual evoked potential. However, in the majority of cases (80-90%) it is abnormal. An MRI of the optic nerves with contrast may help to document the damage caused by the optic neuritis. Good luck.
