Toddler can't support weight on his right leg and kick it from below his knee

My 17 mnth old son was born with clubfeet. has been in casts (which were over his knees and replaced every week or two)from his birth. but movements of his legs were equal and good when he was out of casts. when he was 5 mnth old he had a small surgery -his achile tendons were released. after that he was placed into smoler cast -below his knees. but the right feet used to slip from these cast, so it was plased into long cast again. I don't remember exactly what time he has to be like this. but later we recognized the difference - he was holding his right leg little bit bent when finaly out of casts. we decided it was just some kind of contracture. but it didnt disappeare, althrough we were working with it, until now (17 mnth).

My boy also is hypotonic (just fizical, not mental or other delay has been recognised) also from birth, so we have had some genetical tests and the one for muscular atrophyamong among them , all were ok. neurologicaly he feels his bouth legs and feet equal and moves his toes, but leg straightening test he fails on his right leg.

now he crowls very good, stands by holding on smth, but beares his weight just on his left (also have to mentione that it is not a pain problem, no trauma). but when his right leg-knnee is placed in some kind of splint he stands symetricaly, also tries now to stand up by himselfe already.

Doctors say that there is no other cure just symptomatic, anyway, so we do massage on his leg constantly, but no improvement we can see.

I would appreciate any insights and ideas from You to this problem. Thank You in advance

The right leg symptoms you describe could be from either a contracture or asymmetric spasticity

A contracture is a fixed deformity at a joint due to stiffening of theligaments, and can bedifficult to treat once formed (usually from immobility or weakness around the joint)

Sometimes a weakness on one side in a child is not recognised for months, and is only apparent as the child matures or uses a dominant hand before theage of 2 years. So it may not be recognised at birth, but could present with a spastic weak leg later.

Either waym treatment is usually rehab andphysical therapy to overcome functional disability

I dont know which is more likely in your case, this forums is for educational purposes and not for formal medical opinions.

I just want to add that he has had ultrasound examination of his brain through the fontanel for 3 times - no pathology were recognised. also his hips were examined twice - no problem. the right knee x-rayed - also nothing. Thats all we have had for now.

Thank You in advance and sorry for my bad English.
