ANXIETY AND MUSCLE TWITCHING AFTER ANUERSYM

by Teddy G, Apr 26, 2007 12:00AM
HAD STAGE 1 RUPTURED ANURISM ON JAN 27,2007 HAD CLIPPING
IN INTENSIVE CARE 13 DAYS. SURGERY WENT WELL WAS ALWAYS
ALERT AND KEPT ALL MOTOR FUNCTIONS. LEFT HOSPITAL WITH
OPTIONAL THERAPY WHICH I AM DOING TO BUILD UP MY STAMINA.

I AM TRYING TO MAXIMIZE AND SPEED MY RECOVERY BUT PROBABLY
AM DOING TO MUCH BETWEEN WORK, FAMILY, AND REHAB. ADJUSTING MY
SCHEDUEL BEST I CAN.

I HAVE HAD ANXIOUS TYPE ANXIETY, SINCE SURGERY. I HAVE HAD
THIS TYPE OF AXNIETY ING THE PAST. NOW TAKING 1.0 MG CLONAZEPAM AND LEXAPRO 10 MG A DAY AFTER 2-3 WEEKS FEELING BETTER BUT SOME
DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS. I ALSO TAKE DIOVAN HCT FOR HBP
WHICH IS UNDER CONTROL AT 120/85

SINCE SURGERY HAVE HAD LIGHT MUSCLE TWITCHING AT REST ESPECIALY
AT NIGHT USUALLY BEHIND LEGS AND ARMS BUT IT CAN VERY. I BELIEVE IT IS WORSE AFTER DAYS THAT I EXERCISE (REHAB MORE) I HAVE BEEN
DRINKING SOME PIEDIALITE AND TAKING SOME SUPLEMENTS MAGNISIUM
CALCIUM ZINC AND EATING MORE FRUIT. HAVENT NOTICED ANY REAL
CHANGE. COULD IT BE REALTED TO THE ANXIETY?

APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT.

First of all, keep in mind that I am unable to diagnose you because I am unable to examine you, this forum is for educational purposes.
The symptoms that you describe (twitches) are most consistent with fasiculations.  These are small twitches in muscles that are often visible under the skin, but do not cause movement across a joint.  Fasiculations are common and can be found in normal people, with exercise, after a viral infection, with electrolyte disorders and with some neuromuscular conditions (but not without other symptoms).  I suspect that your fasiculations are related to your exercise/rehab (especially after your period of inactivity).  Anxiety does not generally cause fasicualtions, but it does make people notice them and worry needlessly about them.  I suspect that as your rehab progresses you will see less fasiculations.
I hope this has been helpful.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY-

I WENT ON LEXAPRO AND GOT MILD HEADACHES AND MILD NECK
ACHE BUT WENT AWAY ON 10MG DOSE AFTER 10 DAYS AS WELL AS THE TWITITCHING. TWITCHING/ANXIETY STARTING COMING BACK
AFTER TWO WEEKS AND INCREASED MY LEXAPRO DOSE TO TO 15 MG AS IT SEEMS I MAY HAVE  MILD SIDE EFFECTS WITH SERITONIN DRUGS. I HAVE HAD ANXIETY ATTACKS IN THE PAST AND THE BRAIN SURGERY PROBABLY HAS INCREASED MY ANXIETY WHICH HAS BEEN PERSISTANT BUT WERE WORKING ON IT. I HAVE BEEN TO TWO NUEROLOGISTS INCLUDING MY SURGEN, FROM A GOOD NY HOSPITAL,
WHO I JUST HAD MY LAST FOLLOW UP WITH. IN ADDITION MY GP.
ALL SAY I PRESENT WELL AND HAVE ENOCURGED ME TO TO RESUME MY NORMAL EXERCISE ROUTINE. (JOGGING 2 MILES EVERY OTHER DAY.) BUT EASE INTO IT. SURGERY WAS 01/28/07. PLEASE REPLY IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER THOUGHTS
