headaches when I stand up

by beekaboo, Dec 03, 2005 12:00AM
Have severe headaches when standing up from sitting or lying down.  Blood pressure was 160/99 lying down and dropped to 134/84 when standing.  B-12 level was low and cardio homocysteine level was high. Have had three b-12 shots, and they seemed to help.  Now the headaches and dizziness are back. I'm so frustrated.  Any suggestions?

Blood pressure has always been normal...  about 125/75.

Just recently realized that BP was high when I take it sitting or lying down.(150-166/88-99)

Systolic always DROPS 15-30 when I STAND UP. But I get a pain in my neck and a bad headache.

Diastolic drops very little, stays the same or rises one or two points.

After the episode, and the headaches go away, the BP returns to normal for a period of time....until I sit down and stand up again....then the headache comes back.

You need to get a BP workup. There are certain endocrine conditions that cause high BP and the coming and going you describe suggest such a condition. Ask them to measure your epinephrine and norepineprine levels. You need to record your BP several ttimes a day, lying and standing and show this to your  doctor. Ask for a referral to an endocrinologist who can study your adrenal gland. Good luck
