bulging disc and bone spurs

i have a bulgin disc at my c5 and bone spurs at my c2 c3. the bone doctor says they should not be causing me pain but i have severe pain. the worst pain is in the nap of my neck and my shoulders hurt and so do the muscles around my neck area. all day long my neck pops and grinds. if it's not the spurs or the disc what could it be? neurontin and baclofen are the only thing that help with the pain. an emg showed just severe muscle spasming. if these spurs and disc are not the problem then why would the muscles be spasming? i don't understand it.

I don't know much about the cervical spine but my brother just had surgery for a bulging disc in his low thoracic/upper lumbar area. They couldn't understand why he was in so much pain (had severe sciatic pain). They did steroid injections and PT but nothing helped. His dr kept telling him that he shouldn't be experiencing anywhere near that much pain based on what the MRI was showing (he had two of them done). He also had moderate back spasms.

When they did the surgery they found that the problem was far more complicated than they had thought. They found he had a long pointy bone spur that was pressing on nerves in his back. They ended up having to remove half of the vertebra, the bulging disc and the bone spur. They said the area was severely inflammed so they injected it with antibiotics and steroids to help reduce the inflammation. His dr told him after the surgery that he'll probably need another surgery within 5 years to have a plate put in (I don't fully understand why though). It's been 6 months and he still has problems with sciatic pain (he's only 29).

Is chiropractic care an option for you?

To: anyone
I also had 2 spurs removed Nov06. I am still having pain. The Dr.said it would be a year before I would have relief. I can't seem to find anything to take the pain except percocet and that isn't helping anymore. I had pt and that helps at the time but doesn't stay.If I have any stress it goes to my neck.

be careful with back surgery.  go to a good hospital and check out the doc before hand.  my mother had back surgery last year.  the doc actually broke off a drill bit in a vertabrae in my mothers back.  he didn't even tell us, and the only reason we know about it is because her back pain got worse after surgery and they did an MRI.  It will always be there and her pain is horrible expecially at night.  She really has a hard time trying to sleep.
Another thing, cronic pain messes with your brain, my mom was told to go see a shrink, and this made her mad because she thought the doc thought that she really wasn't in as much pain.  Turns out though that people that suffer from cronic pain do benifit from talking to a shrink.  A pain specialist.  The only thing that has helped her out a little is getting acupuncture.

I did check out the hospital and especially the Dr.He had done surgerys on my husband and was very successful.I guess I don't understand how a shrink would help when you know for a fact you are having the pain.I am not a big baby with pain.I had a total knee replacement and I thought that was bad up untl now.
