Question Title: Kidney Stones Again??

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Kidney Stones

To whom it may concern:

My boyfriend passed several kidney stones last summer, and is complaining of having some pain again like he did last time; prior to passing the stones. He is not one to want to go to the doctor, but I do not want him to go through the same thing again. Is it normal for kidney stones to develop again? Is there anything that he can do to prevent them?

Also, one of his testicles is hanging lower in the scrotum than the other. He claims that he is not worried about this, but is this normal? It has not always been like that. He told me that a couple of years ago he strained himself while working. Could that have attributed to this problem, and is this harmful???

Dear Tamara
Thanks for your questions.
People can have urinary abnormalities which predispose them to kidney stones. The risk of stone recurrence is greater than 70%. It is important to get his stone treated then encourage him and his doctor to have a work-up to see what abnormality is causing his stones. No matter what the cause of his stones, the most important treatment is hydration. He should continually drink water/ to keep his urine colorless (very clear) and dilute.
The testicle position is normal. You need not worry.
