Question Title: 45 degree bending to the penis

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Peyronie's Disease

I am 23 years old and have quite a large curve to my penis. It is
bent approximately 45 degrees downward and a little to the left while erect. I have had
this as long as i remember. I have come to the conclusion that it is not peyronie's
disease and I didn't have hypospadias as an infant. Erections aren't painful and I
can have intercourse but with some discomfort.

What I would like to know is what this is called and if it can be
treated/corrected in some way.

Thanks in advance.

Magnus

Dear Magnus,
Patients that have a downward curvature as you are describing is known as a ventral chordee. You are correct in your association with hypospadius and curvature of the penis. It is important to know if you decide to proceed with surgical correction that a hypospadius is not going to complicate the procedure. Peyronie’s as also a cause of curvature and I will trust your assessment that there are penile plaques. Therefore, we are left with a situation which you were probably born with a ventral chordee.
There are a few ways to correct this surgically, all of which are outpatient procedures meaning you go home the same day. You would have to refrain from sexual intercourse after the operation for about six weeks. If these post-op instructions are followed and a good repair is performed by your surgeon, the results a very good and patients are often satisfied. The operations may effect the length and width of the penis. During the procedure and artificial erection would be performed to confirm to straightness of the shaft.
Only you can decide if your have significant discomfort or the curvature itself bothers you enough to proceed with surgical intervention. Urologists at Henry Ford Hospitals would be more than happy to discuss your situation and evaluate you in person.
