Question Title: Blood In Ejaculation

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Sexual Dysfunction

I've notice during my last sexual incounter that there was what looked like blood in my semen
what could be the cause and cure for this?

Dear KDB,

Hematospermia refers to the presence of blood in the ejaculate. The reason for this is unknown, but thought to be associated with ejaculation after a long period of abstinence. The condition is usually benign and usually self limited (goes away on its own). Urologists see referrals for hematospermia in the office on occasion (so your not the only one), and usually offer assurance and support that this will go away on its own. This visit should also include a history and physical examination, including rectal exam, a urinalysis and often a PSA blood test. Wish you the best.
