Question Title: Vitamins and antibioticsForum: The Urology Forum
| ||||
I have a small fluid-filled cyst in my right testicle. The doctor said that I have cycistitis (?) and prescribed Cipro (500mg) twice daily for ten days with one refill. When I asked, "Why antibiotics?", he said that usually there was some infection with prostititis cases. My question is, "Can I take a daily Mega multivitamin pill while I take the antibotics? Will that cause any problem with the Cipro?
__ Dear Kimo, I checked the package insert and the PDR for any indication that multivitamins cause a contraindication to taking Cipro. There is no drug reaction or interference that has been established with any vitamin. You could ask your pharmacist when you pick up the prescription the same question. The only other issue to consider is the use of Cipro in treating prostatitis. A course of ten days is usually not sufficient to eradicate the bacteria from the prostate. The recommended length of treatment for prostatitis is 28 days. This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition.
