Question Title: Right and Left Testicle PainForum: The Urology Forum
| |
About two and a half months ago I started to feel a great deal of pain and discomfort in my right testicle area. At first I ignored the pain, as I had just recently help a friend move into his apartment. But, after about two weeks of daily and constant pain in my right and left testicle, I went to my doctor where she ordered an ultrasound to rule out torsion. The ultrasound showed no evidence of torsion or any cancerous lumps. As an added procaution, my doctor also referred me to one of the leading specialist in our area that deals with these types of problems. To my dismay, that specialist told me that my problems were"in my head and to get over it" He gave me some Motrin 800 and basically sent me on my way. The medication only relieved the pain but did not make the pain go away. Seeking the advise of another doctor, he ordered a proscription for Floxin 400mg. I am currently taking this medication, but I have not yet seen any results. I am writing for any advise that I can get. Thank You...
______ Dear Concerned, It is very difficult to make a judgment in your case due to the fact that an examination is so important. It sounds like your doctors have been very thorough in their work-up your condition by doing an ultrasound and a number of other test. If you were my patient I would want to propose a list of possible reasons that could be causing your pain and check each possibility carefully. This is called a differential diagnosis. In your case the list would consist of: 1)Infection (epididymitis);Inflammation 2)Spermatocele 3)varicocele 4)hydrocele 5)tesicular cancer 6)Torsion 7)Inguinal hernia, strain I my opinion most of these possible diagnoses have been evaluated. Infection- you have been given antibiotics (Floxin)(possibility you have not taken it for a sufficient length of time. The infection would have been seen on Ultrasound. Spermatocele- an outpouching of the epididymus filled with sperm. These do not need to be very big to cause a significant amount of pain, This would have been seen on ultrasound. Varicocele-dilated veins in the scrotum around the testicle, Hydrocele- fluid collection around testicle. Testicular cancer-would have been seen on ultrasound Torsion- Testical would have died by now and there would not be any flow in the vessels on ultrasound. Inguinal Hernia- This would be evident on a good physical exam. It sound like your doctors have worked-up your problem correctly. Make sure they have addressed the above issues. You may want to continue with an over the anti-inflammatory medication(Motrin) to help with the pain and inflammation.
