Question Title: What are signs of kidney disease?Forum: The Urology Forum
| ||||
| Hello. I have an 11 mo. old son who is having recurrent uti's and has had 2 perinephric abcess's on one kidney, in the last 6 mos. The uti's I am told are from him having a slow emptying bladder, and they have found no reasoning as to why he has had the abcess's. He is seeing a urologist in Januray. But I am concerned about renal failure and kidney disease for him. Is it possible for him to develop this from his current situation? He also has cp,seizures,hydrocephaly,microcephaly,reflux and has had numerous surgeries. If anyone can help or pass along any information, that might help, please pass it along. Thank You Becky
Dear Becky, Renal failure is the loss of kidney function to the point where toxins in the urine cannot be adequately eliminated. Many causes of kidney failure exist. These include major infections of the kidneys causing scarring and loss of normal kidney tissue. The diagnosis of renal failure can be made with blood tests (creatinine) and urine tests (creatinine clearance) along with the clinical picture. Signs of kidney failure include protein in the urine, hypertention, fluid retention, and anemia. Treatment of renal failure include elimination of the cause (some renal failure is reversible) and finally dialysis or kidney transplantation. You should discuss your childs renal function status with your son's physicians. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its satellites (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly. This information is provided for general medical education purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition.
