Question Title: Back pain around the kidney

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Kidney Cancer

In 1990 my wife had her left kidney removed, renal carcinoma.

For the last year or so, the back area where the left kidney is has gradually increased in pain to the point now where she is taking 8-10 aspririn a day just to get through the day.

Since 1990 she's had CT's and MRI's once to twice a year. The last one, a couple weeks ago, does not indicate any abnormalties in the kidney area.

What could be causing this pain?

Thank you, Walter

Dear Walter
Thanks for your questions.
Multiple diagnosis can be guessed at over the internet, from musculoskeletal to metastatic renal cell carcinoma to the spine. I would encourage you to continue to work with your doctors to cull down the list. Once the ominous diagnoses have been ruled out, possibly a referral to an anesthesia pain clinic for symptomatic treatment will be beneficial. Good Luck.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
