Question Title: Dark Colored Semen

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Testicular Cancer

My ejaculate recently has been an extremely dark color, almost chocolatey. I am not experiencing any kind of pain or discomfort. Is this an warning sign of cancer? Have you heard of this condition before? Thank you.

Dear John,
It is difficult for me to comment on your situation since I have no other medical information. I don’t think that dark semen is a sign of cancer, but if you have noticed a change in your semen and you have not been properly followed with routine prostate care, then I think it would be appropriated for you to see a Urologist. If you are over the age of 50, have not had a PSA drawn in the last year or have a family history of Prostate cancer I think you need to see your doctor. A urinalysis and rectal examination should also be performed.
This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its satellites (1 800 653-6568).

Sincerely,
HFHS M.D.-AK
