Question Title: WHITE SPOTS ON KIDNEY'SForum: The Urology Forum
| ||||
| My husband has been having alot of back pain and lower abdomal pain. Today he had a ultrasound of his kidney's. On one kidney, there were two white spots, on the other kidney there was one white spot. Is there a possiblity that the white spots on his kidney's, is cancer? If not cancer, then what are the spots? Cancer runs in his family.
_______- Dear Saundra, There is no way to tell if your husband has white spots on his kidney without physically looking at the kidney in surgery. What your husband probably has is a hyperechogenic focus on his renal ultrasound(these appear as bright spots). This could be a stone, fat, medical renal disease or a disease causing renal calcification(nephrocalcinosis,medulary sponge kidney). A hyperechogenic focus without any other history is difficult for me to comment on, however, if a CT scan was not recommended and a mass was not reported, then chances are, this is not cancer. Talk to your doctor about the final radiologist’s reading. If there is any questions or your husband is at risk for cancer, I’m sure they would order another test.
