Hello everyone.. I have been done a penile doppler test 3 months ago. After an injection of caverject i have been on an erection of 6 hours and by that morning i have noticed my penis got a curvature to the left and also my penis had a hard plague inside . A general hardness stay there for 3 months. And after 8 hours of that injection i have developed a stress type incontinence and an urge to urine always regardless of the amount of urine while i m standing or moving. But while lying down i m in comfort but for now it is impossible for me stand or move without the urge. The doctors say it can be one of a million but possible. All the tests including URODYNAMICS done but nothing found useful and my last resort is cystoscopy for the diagnosis. I know i m cared by the best doctors but the the incontinence is ruining my life. After catherization i was good for 5 or 6 days but but same symptoms came back. I m 27 years old and dont know what to do for that strange situation. thanks..
Dear Mike, I don’t know why you have developed stress incontinence or urge incontinence after using caverject. The curvature and tissue reaction(plaque) is explained by the caverject injection. Once a plaque has formed, curvature is a likely outcome. About 3% of patients experience penile fibrosis or injection site hematoma. The PDR says that 4% of patients experience priapism or a prolonged erection more than 6 hours. I would not use caverject again , I would explore the other options for erectile dysfunction with your urologist. Most to these plaques resolve spontaneously WITH CESSATIION OF THE DRUG. To address the incontinence, it sounds like your doctors have started a work-up for you. The urodynamics with CMG should show if your bladder is functioning properly. There was a mention of prostatitis in 2% of users, maybe your irritative symptoms are secondary to inflammation in your prostate. I am not clear as to whether the episodes of incontinence always follow your use of the drug. If there is this association, then I think that you are most likely developing retention (inability to empty your bladder). With an overstretched bladder, the urine may “run out” just like water over a damn. Thus, the positional nature of you problem. You may need to have urodynamics done after you have been give the medication. However, the further use of this drug for you sounds to be full of problems and it sounds as if you need to look at other options. Again, there is no mention of urgency incontinence or stress incontinence in the PDR as a side effect. It did mention irritation and sensitivity but these are both vague terms. It sounds like your doctors are on the right tract, stick with there advice and hopefully your symptoms will clear up. This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only.
