Question Title: microscopic blood in urine/urge incontinence

i have had microscopic blood in my urine for approx 10 or so years - i have had an ivp and my urethrea stretched twice and was told all seems ok, come back in 5 years- i am now 42 years old and for the last year or so i have urge incontinence, my doctor said try doing kegel exercises, which i do somewhat regularly - are these problems related?? - suggestions, please. i have excellent medical insurance - should i see another urologist? any other specialist??
please advise - all info would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Susan, thanks for your question.
The differential diagnosis for your problem includes urinary tract infection, urolithiasis and various cancers. Clinical evaluation may be guided by the your age, sex, medical history and physical examination. First thing I will look for is the urinary tract infection. If present it should be treated by antiboitic therapy. In view of urinary urgency and microscopic hematuria, I would also plan a cystoscopic examination to exclude and bladder pathology such as carcinoma in situ, interstitial cystitis etc and an intravenous pyelogram to check the upper urinary system.

Following this I would like to evaluate the urinary incontinence. You may require a urodynamic examination to elucidate the exact cause for your problem. Based on the cause for urinary incontinence you may benefit from medical, biofeedback or surgical procedure. Exact details can only be outlined by your urologist who can examine and investigate you.
