| Could you please respond to my posting entitled "Kidney Removal and Growth" posted 3/21/98. I would appreciate some type of input even if it is to refer me to another forum or elsewhere. Thank you. Thanks Kate for your question. Removing a kidney does not cause growth retardation per se unless your son has renal failure / insufficiency. This is unlikely unless his remaining kidney is diseased. A blood draw to check his renal function and bicarbonate level should be able to rule out this unlikely possibility. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its satellites (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians’ notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly. This information is provided for general medical education purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition. Sincerely; HFHS-M.D. MS * Keyword: growth retardation
