Question Title: cyst on left testicle, long wait for ultrasound

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Testicular Cancer

I went to the doctor a few days ago with the complaint of a dull pain in my left testicle/abdomen, along with what he eventually described as a cyst on my left testicle. I also had the complaint of hard tender masses, a large fairly noticeable one behind my left nipple, and a very small one behind my right nipple. He gave me a phone number to make an appointment for an ultrasound of my left testicle, he also had me make an appointment for a mammogram. My problem is that my appointment for the ultrasound and mammogram are in 1 month, and i was wondering if i should be worried about waiting so long to get checked out for this?

Dear DMG,
Testicular ultrasound is an excellant way to evaluate the testicles for a possible tumor. This test is successful well over 90% of the time in detecting these lesions. Other scrotal pathology including cysts, blood clots, infection, torsion, enlarged veins, and calcifications can be described by the ultrasound.
Concern regarding a possible testicular cancer typically causes great anxiety. For this reason and the possibility of rapid growth we would suggest obtaining an ultrasound within a few days. If your physician's
index of suspicion for a cancer is very low, then waiting a few weeks may be justified.
