Question Title: I found a painful pointy lump on my left testicle.

Exactly one week ago today i found a painful pointy lump on the outside front of my left testicle. It is on the testicle, not the scrotum. My testicles rise and fall evenly, and there is no pain when urinating or ejaculating. The pain has more or less subsided to a very dull ache when touched. I have searched for all the possible causes and found only a mixture of things based on the database here at this site, as well as in a medical encyclopedia. My best guess is there is some infection in one of the tubes? It has not interfered with urination or sexual activity.
I would rather not go to a series of doctors when i can get information here. That is to say I am looking for the best doctor to start with. Ihave no health insurance or a primary care given as I am a part time commuting graduate student.

Please Respond,

AL

Dear al,
A lump in the scrotum may be caused by a variety of lesions. You have researched this site, and have read about hydroceles, spermatoceles, epididymitis, varicoceles, and testicular cancers. As we have previously recommended, after a lump is found on physical self- examination a history and physical examination by your primary care physician or urologist is recommended. Based on those findings, urinalysis, scrotal ultrasound, urine culture, and blood tumor markers would be considered. Your treatment would range from observation to antibiotics to surgery.
As a graduate student with financial difficulties you may want to inquire about university student health service that may be included with your tuition. Many universities require proof of medical insurance for their students.
This information is provided for general medical information purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition. More individualized care is available through our department at the Henry Ford Hospital and its suburban locations (I-800-653-6568).
Sincerely;
HFHS M.D.-CK
