Posted by jason on May 10, 1999 at 16:39:30 Is urethral dilation on a continuing basis a common procedure after visual internal urethrotomy for the removal of a stricture?
Posted by HFHS M.D.-AT on May 25, 1999 at 18:26:30 Dear Jason: Thanks for your questions and patience. Following internal urethrotomy it common to put patients on intermittent self catheterization. However if it is long term and it occurs in young patients, it affects the quality of life. Therefore if internal urethrotomy can not cure the stricture disease, you might want to explore the possibility of urethroplasty (surgical removal of stricture and making of new urethra in that region). The choice of urethroplasty depends on the site, cause and extent of the stricture. You may want to consult your urologist for such surgical treatment. Hope this information will help you. Best of luck. This information is provided for general medical information purposes only.
