Posted by Nancy on June 15, 1999 at 12:38:46 About one month ago, I had an exteme allergic reaction to cephzil which I was taking for a sinus infection. I was given a benedril shot and 2 prednisone pills, followed by a shot of cortisone and a prescription of hydroxexene (spell?) 12 hours later. I was then put on a 7 day step down program of cortisone. After 48 hours on cortisone and the hyroxexene, I began having urinary frequency, and feelings of leaking a little urine although no burning. A urinalysis showed the presence of red blood cells (I didn't have my period) and I was put on macrobid. My symptoms seemed to decrease, but after 5 days, the left side of my face went numb. They took me off macrobid and the frequency came back. I went back to the doctor, they did another urinalysis and again found red blood cells, but as the original urinalysis culture came back negative, they told me to go home and drink water. I went to a different family practitioner, the urine culture was again negative, (although red blood cells were again present) but my outer labia, when examined, was red and inflamed. The doctor said the frequency could be a result of all the medications I was one and that the bladder and vaginal area was probably just very sensitive. (I didn't seem to have a yeast infection, she checked me for one). It's now one month later and while my labia is no longer inflamed, I still have the feelings of frequency. I was given a prescription for Detrol, but after my allergic reactions, I'm pretty reluctant to take any more medications. I'm not sure what to do next; could it just take a long time to recover from the allergic reactions and drugs or is my bladder somewhow now permanently sensitized? Thank you for your help. Nancy
