Question Title: undecended testicles

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Testicular Cancer

I am a 31 yr. old male with traveling testicles. about 80% of the time they are undecended and the rest they are in place but will travel back up with any touch or other stimulation. my main concern is cancer. I do have two children so, i dont think that fertility is a problem. My question is, If im able to have children is there really a threat from this? should I have surgery at 31 to have this problem corrected? Thanks for the help.

Dear James,
This phenomenon you are referring to is actually called retractile testicles. There is a muscle along the spermatocord that attaches to the testis. When this muscle is stimulated, the testicles are brought up towards the abdomen. This is also called the creamesteric reflex after the creamesteric muscle. So in response to your question, you are essentially normal. There is no increase risk for cancer or decrease in fertility. You simply have an active creamesteric reflex. There is no reason for concern, and there is no reason for surgery.
