Hello. I am experiencing lower back cramping in the kidney area as well as sharp pains starting on my upper left shoulder through my left side as far down as below my rib cage. I have heard this could be hepatitis but I am not suffering any nausea currently. It does not hurt to urinate or have sexual intercourse. I do not have medical insurance and would like toknow if this sounds like I should contact a free clinic. Thank you for you help.

Dear Kelly,
If you feel that your symptoms warrant medical attention, I would certainly advise you to see a family doctor and have a full history and physical. If at that time further treatment or diagnostic studies are needed, they can be ordered. It is very difficult for me to comment any further due to the limited history you have provided.
Yes, you could have pain from your kidney or urinary tract, however a systematic diagnostic approach is always used so problems don’t get missed. A proper work-up always begins with a history and physical.
